Department Overview<br />The Department of Instruction is charged with the development and implementation of high quality education to improve student learning. DOI provides leadership, support, direction, and resources in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to create a climate of success for all learners. The Department includes the following teams: Athletics, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Elementary, Middle, High, Instructional Services, Research, Teaching & Learning, and School Administration. <br />The mission of the Academies of Loudoun is to empower students to explore, research, collaborate, innovate, and to make meaningful contributions to the world in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The Academies of Loudoun is comprised of three academies:<br />• Academy of Engineering & Technology (AET)<br />• Academy of Science (AOS)<br />• Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA)<br />Position Overview<br />Teachers at the Academies of Loudoun must be ready to deliver advanced academic content and quality instruction to students who have made a commitment to a challenging STEM program. They should also be willing to continually plan and develop curriculum in a highly collaborative environment.<br /><br />Roles and Responsibilities<br />The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:<br />* Demonstrates content expertise and experience required to teach advanced levels of graphics design and graphic communications; interest and willingness to help students learn through and design long-term projects and activities. <br />* Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate on a daily basis with other members of the team to plan and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities.<br />* Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes. <br />* Manages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure that the environment is conducive to the learning process, and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site.<br />* Pursues professional growth through an ongoing program of reading and research, attendance at workshops, seminars, and conferences, and/or completing advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.<br />* Employs a variety of instructional techniques and utilizes a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning and meet the needs of individual students and student groups.<br />* Develops and maintains a business advisory committee.<br /><br />Below are the qualifications for this position:<br />* Holds or is eligible for a Vocational Education Certificate (VEC) in Graphic Communication and/or printing. <br />* Has experience working in the graphic communications and/or printing field.<br />* Has working knowledge of the printing, publishing, and packaging industry. <br />* Possesses skills in design and digital prepress with a working knowledge of Macintosh and PC operating systems and various peripherals, Adobe Creative Suite2, Graphic Design elements, Prepress/Digital Imaging, Offset Printing Process, Finishing Procedures, The Offset Press and Finishing Equipment, and Safety Standards of the Printing Industry. <br />* Passion for STEM education and genuine appreciation for the mission of the Academies of Loudoun <br />* Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristic necessary to work effectively with adolescents, parents, business/industry, and community groups.<br />* Possesses good organization, human relations, and communications skills.<br /><br />Physical Requirements<br />The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:<br />While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Qualified employees are those who hold the necessary degrees, skills, and experience for the job; and who can perform its essential responsibilities list above, with or without an accommodation.<br /><br /><strong>STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:</strong><br />Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s).<br /><br /><strong>BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:</strong><br />Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned; knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development; knowledge of Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; skill in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning; ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents; skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills.
