<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><strong>About the Position:</strong> This position is at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH), Fort Belvoir, VA, in the Directorate for Nursing, Maternal Child Neonatal Level II Unit. The position requires performing rotating shift work. Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, or stooping, as well as the ability to lift, push, or pull objects, greater than 50 pounds required.<br /><br />This is a Direct Hire Solicitation<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Provide comprehensive, family-centered RN care in a Special Care Nursery (SCN), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).</li> <li>Attend high risk deliveries, providing neonatal resuscitation as needed.</li> <li>Manage peripheral and umbilical IV lines, and administer medications.</li> <li>Provide maintenance of nasal/oral gastric tubes for specialized feedings of newborns.</li> <li>Perform assessments and provide for the care of premature and ill infants.</li> <li>Operate highly technical equipment/technology to treat and monitor neonatal patients (i.e., cardiac monitors, phototherapy, resuscitation care centers, IV infusion pumps, CPAP generators, and ventilators).</li> <li>Provide stabilization and transition of the normal newborn at delivery.</li> <li>Identify changes in the newborns condition and act quickly in response to life-saving and/or critical situations.</li> <li>Circulates and scrubs for Cesarean Sections.</li> <li>Assist the anesthesiologist with insertion of an epidural, and provide care to the patient with regional anesthesia.</li> <li>Recognize complications and coordinate with other members of the specialty care team.</li> <li>Document patient information in electronic medical records.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Not required<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 12 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts at the time of application) or official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. In addition, you must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your registration in order to be considered for this position.)<br /><br />In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:<br /><br />Experience: One year of experience which includes: conducting maternal-fetal assessment, performing neonatal resuscitation, neonatal and adult intravenous therapy, and specialized feedings, patient education and safety, providing nursing support to laboring patients (utilizing pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management), and documenting electronic medical records. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).<br /><br />Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
