<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />This position is located in the Applied Research and Methods (ARM), Center for Evaluation Methods and Issues (CEMI). The CEMI produces reports and other studies involving program evaluation, performance measurement, applied statistics, applied social science research, and future-oriented analyses to support effective governance and a stronger evidence-base for policy. To learn more about ARM and its Centers, please visit us on the web at: ARM <br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br />The Center for Evaluation Methods and Issues is seeking an experienced professional to serve as an Assistant Director; responsible for providing leadership and expertise to GAO teams on complex social science and program evaluation and methodological issues consistent with professional standards. Duties involve, but are not limited to, the following:<br /><br />• Advises and/or guides teams in selecting and implementing appropriate methodologies for engagements in accordance with GAO standards, and professional social science and program evaluation standards.<br />• Provides leadership, direction and/or consultation on complex engagement designs, project plans, data collection, and analysis in the evaluation of federal programs based on requests from congressional committees and mandates written into legislation, resolutions, and committee reports.<br />• Designs and leads portions of complex engagements and carries out sophisticated quantitative and/or qualitative analysis. <br />• Directs, manages, and supervises team members. Assigns work and evaluates and documents work performance of team members. Hears and resolves employee complaints, recommends disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands, and recommends other action in more serious cases. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience overseeing or leading the development of quantitative and qualitative social science research designs and methods; expert knowledge of and experience in program and process evaluation designs and methods; and experience guiding others to use these approaches to effectively perform evaluations or other applied research.<br /><br /><strong>You must meet all qualifications requirements before the closing date of this announcement.</strong><br /><br /><b>Education</b><br /><br /><strong>Basic Requirement:</strong><br /><br /><strong>Degree:</strong> behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.<br /><br />OR<br /><br /><strong>Combination of education and experience</strong> that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.<br /><br />OR<br /><br /><strong>Four years of appropriate experience</strong> that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.<br /><br /><strong>YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS VERIFYING YOU MEET THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS.
