<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><strong>About the Position</strong>: The Directorate of Operations (DOO) provides fire and emergency services and protection operations. Its main mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the Service Members, civilians and families that work, live or visit our installation.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Serve as a member of a four to six person crew responsible for responding to fires, hazardous materials and confined space incidents, and accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses</li> <li>Direct and participate in the work of an engine firefighting crew</li> <li>Firefighting methods range from standard to unusually difficult, due to the wide variety of functions at the Installation</li> <li>Participate in the work of an engine firefighting crew. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.<br /><br /><strong>Specialized Experience</strong>: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Experience performing structural firefighting duties, including controlling and extinguishing fires and/or rescue operations; (2) experience providing basic life support; (3) experience responding to and mitigating hazardous materials incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).<br /><br />Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. Thirty-seven (37) years is the maximum entry age for covered primary/rigorous firefighter positions. Persons not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual reaches his/her 37th birthday shall not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions. Applicants who are age 37 or over may subtract any of their prior federal service that is in approved primary/rigorous positions and that is creditable for retirement from their current age to meet this age requirement.
