<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><strong>About the Position:</strong> Incumbent will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Logistics Activity. Incumbent will be expected to perform a range of duties, such as operate vehicles over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions. Drivers also ensure the cargo is protected from the weather and that it is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss while in transit.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Frequently drives through congested metropolitan traffic, on freeways, and on rural and secondary roads.</li> <li>Performs minor maintenance on vehicle such as changing tires.</li> <li>Reads and understands owner's manual for the assigned vehicle for the purpose of properly operating, loading/unloading, fueling and maintaining.</li> <li>Secures and distributes cargo properly to prevent damage or loss in transit.</li> <li>Obeys all traffic laws and safety regulations required for vehicles, roads, loading and unloading, and other applicable precautions.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />25% or less – You may be expected to travel for this position.<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 6 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.</li> <li>This position is covered by the civilian abuse testing program. Initial appointment is 13 months, up to two years. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.<br /><br />Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. Drive motor vehicles including pickup / panel / flatbed /crew cab trucks, sedans,, jeeps, and station wagons with typically an approx gross vehicle weight up to 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds); driven for specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads to transport personnel, supplies, materials, or equipment and tools or tow equipment throughout rural or urban areas; load and unload the vehicles by hand. – Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.<br /><br /><ul><li>Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision</li><li>Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)</li><li>Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)</li><li>Operation of Motor Vehicles</li><li>Reliability and Dependability as a Motor Vehicle Operator</li><li>Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)</li></ul><br /><br /><strong>Physical Effort:</strong> Moderate physical effort may be required in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment because safety chains, towbars, and hooks must be lifted and properly secured. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs, such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways.<br /><br /><strong>Working Conditions:</strong> Drivers operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent), and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Motor Vehicle Operators are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes.
