We seek a self-motivated patent attorney to join a dynamic team and support the company’s efforts in building a strategic patent portfolio and protecting the company in IP-related matters. In your role as Patent Counsel, you will be an integral part of the Legal team at Xilinx. You will work closely with Xilinx’s technical groups and protect our intellectual property assets.

 Responsibilities:

  • Implement and help define the company’s patent strategy and internal processes
  • Manage prosecution of a large portion of the active patent portfolio
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO and foreign patent offices, and manage outside counsel doing the same
  • Analyze and render opinions about patents
  • Work closely with engineering teams to understand technology and business priorities, and identify and harvest strategic inventions
  • Develop a deep understanding of the company’s technology
  • Advise and educate the company on complex IP legal issues
  • Identify and address technical and legal trends

 Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or related fields
  • JD with at least one state bar membership (California preferred)
  • USPTO registration
  • 2+ years’ experience, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications in: hardware and software technologies, such as semiconductor technologies, analog/digital circuitry, signal processing, memory solutions, artificial intelligence/machine learning, wired/wireless communication, and other hardware/software solutions and platforms
  • Experience with foreign patents and applications and with patent litigation including legal research, IP analysis, IP strategy, validity, infringement desirable
  • Semiconductor industry experience, especially in-house, is desirable
  • Strong personal communication skills, both written and oral
